Well, the new seeding system has proved itself. I was prepared, excited, for some upsets. Namely, I was ready to see the Cubans blow Adele away, but her supporters came out in the end, and the heartbroken lady-Brit will move on to the Round of 64.
All in all, scores for this round were underwhelming. 28 voters x 8 songs and only one 10 awarded. Nothing even averaged above a 7. The highest score went to Stealer’s Wheel who defeated the Replacements, despite some really strong support and enthusiasm for the latter.
Here are the scores (rounded to 2 decimal places):
#1 Someone Like You (Acoustic Live) (Adele) – 159.3
#8 Dos Gardenias (Buena Vista Social Club) – 150.4
#4 Portions for Foxes (Rilo Kiley) – 172.92
#5 Thirteen (Big Star) – 159.3
#2 Stuck in the Middle With You (Stealer’s Wheel) – 194.9
#7 Alex Chilton (The Replacements) – 170.1
#3 Sprawl II (Arcade Fire) – 186.4
#6 Paradise by the Dashboard Light (Meat Loaf) – 157.08
See ya, BVSC, Big Star (and all songs about you), Replacements, and Loaf!
Rilo Kiley might have won the round…but did you all see this sad news?? 😦

Wow….I had convinced myself that jazz and folk forms (not of the US or the Old Country) were not being considered in this tournament. Heartbroken I couldn’t put in a vote for my people! RIP BVSC.
