I still remember when my tape/cdr training friend from Montreal visited and brought me their cd as a gift and was like ‘hey this new local band is pretty good you should check out their album”
“Romeo and Juliet” (Dire Straits) v. “Shelter From The Storm” (Bob Dylan)

Wow, the Dire Straits music video is great, crazy stylized. Didn’t know this existed.

“Under Pressure” (Queen & David Bowie) v. “Home” (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes) 6 – 7.5
“(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” (Otis Redding) v. “Wake Up” (Arcade Fire) 6.5 – 5.5

8.5 – “Hallelujah” (Jeff Buckley)
9 – “No Rain” (Blind Melon)
I truly love both these songs. I almost voted a tie. I decided to drop Jeff because it’s a cover and I actually prefer the original by Cohen.
9 – “Under Pressure” (Queen & David Bowie)
8.5 – “Home” (Edward Sharpe)
This was also a really hard one! I gave it to Freddie and Bowie because without this song we wouldn’t have Vanilla Ice.
Division F
9 – “The Dock of the Bay” (Otis Redding)
3 – “Wake Up” (Arcade Fire)
Now, THIS… This was an easy decision. TB;DL (Too bad, didn’t listen) how is Arcade Fire even in this competition? 🤣
6.5 – “Romeo and Juliet” (Dire Straits)
6.5 – “Shelter From The Storm” (Bob Dylan)
Dang… gonna give this a tie. I love both these artists and I’m not super fond of either of these songs but they’re both good.
“Hallelujah” (Jeff Buckley) v. “No Rain” (Blind Melon)
J. 5 : 7.5 Docked it serious points for killing my buzz during Friday night happy hour, but then gave it a point back for putting my rambunctious cats to sleep.
A 4 : 7
“Under Pressure” (Queen & David Bowie) v. “Home” (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes)
J 8.5 : 8
A 9 : 8.5
“(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” (Otis Redding) v. “Wake Up” (Arcade Fire)
J 8.5 : 8.5
A 7 : 8.5
“Romeo and Juliet” (Dire Straits) v. “Shelter From The Storm” (Bob Dylan)
J 9 : 8. Gmo always loved the line, “Now you say, ah, Romeo, I used to have a scene with him”
A 8 : 7.5
I’m really feeling this whole playlist, even songs that I didn’t score well in the first round (who would have thought I’d ever score Blind Melon higher than Queen/Bowie? Not me, for sure).
10 – “Hallelujah” (Jeff Buckley)
7.5 – “No Rain” (Blind Melon)
I think I gave No Rain like a 3 last time? It’s one of those songs that I mostly don’t like, but for some reason occasionally it hits. “All I can say is that my life is pretty plain” is resonating with me tonight. Also tonight was the first time I noticed the sparing use of percussion and dug it.
6.7 – “Under Pressure” (Queen & David Bowie)
8.5 – “Home” (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes)
9 “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” (Otis Redding)
7 “Wake Up” (Arcade Fire)
10 – “Romeo and Juliet” (Dire Straits)
6 – “Shelter From The Storm” (Bob Dylan)
“Romeo and Juliet” felt just short of perfect listening… but I was thinking about the overall occasion for this tournament, and I feel like it might just be the most apt song to win this whole thing. Listening to this song, I can feel Guillermo loving it. Like, I didn’t know that he loved that line, but I also did know that he loved that line. So I bumped it up to a 10.
oof hurt that i missed the last round and saw golden slumbers get knocked out. oh well, guess you snooze you looze.
“Hallelujah” (Jeff Buckley) v. “No Rain” (Blind Melon)

“Under Pressure” (Queen & David Bowie) v. “Home” (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes)
9 v 7 (have a VERY nice memory of dancing to home at a friend’s wedding with one of my other close friends that i was def drawing on this AM but under pressure is too good)
“(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” (Otis Redding) v. “Wake Up” (Arcade Fire)
2 v 8
“Romeo and Juliet” (Dire Straits) v. “Shelter From The Storm” (Bob Dylan)
10 v 10 (THIS IS MATCH-UP FEELS UNFAIR AND A HALF)
