A friend of mine recently said that “hard times require furious dancing.” It’s time to get out of your seat and moving for #3 Buddy Holly (Weezer) vs. #6 Twist and Shout (Beatles). Interestingly, the Beatles referred to Buddy Holly as perhaps their greatest influence, even naming themselves in part after his backup band, The Crickets.
#4 Rock the Casbah (Clash) vs. #12 Rocket Man (Elton John). These songs could not be more different, so I guess it comes down to what mood you’re in. David Bowie thought Rocket Man was a total ripoff of Space Oddity. The “Casbah” in question has long been considered the most dangerous part of Algiers (capital of Algeria), resisting intruders both foreign and domestic.
#2 America (Kathy’s Song)(Simon & Garfunkel) vs. #7 One Headlight (Wallflowers). Surprised young Jacob has made it this far. America has looked very strong through the first two rounds.
#1 Let’s Get It On (Marvin Gaye) vs. #9 Train in Vain (Clash). The Clash put up their last two contenders.
