Not. To. Be. Denied. Standing with one foot on their surfboards, and suffering an extremely polarized round of voting from everyone involved (on a binary basis, 7 for, 6 against, one tie,) the Beach Boys emerge from the Pacific triumphant and stay alive. Wouldn’t It Be Nice defeats Better Man by Pearl Jam, 102.9-100.85.
High score goes to our 1 seed: Stand By Me by Ben E. King defeats Just My Imagination by The Temptations, 111.5-84.7.
The punks tried to punk, but didn’t punk hard enough. Whatever that means. Billie Jean cleared Anarchy In The UK with a decent margin, 107.3-94.5. The Killing Me Softly-Rancid battle was much closer, but The Fugees stay alive and overcome 101.85-98.
Unfortunately for these two, Sex Pistols and Rancid are both now out of the tournament. If I had a genre column on what Nos and I refer to as “the spreadsheet,” I’d tell you how much punk is left. I don’t, but I’d guess the answer is not a lot. Onward, loyal voters.
damn, dropped the ball on this one. i totally would have pulled through for vedder & his crew.
I looked it up, G. While Blondie and Patti Smith toe the genre, the only surviving punks are the two Dookie hits and “Rock the Casbah”.
