About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.

  1. Adam S says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs. Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) 6.5 – 6.5

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs. Make It Better (The Knocks) 5 – 5.5

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs. Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) 3.5 – 5 … that Rakim song has to lose some points because of ridiculous title.

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) vs. Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) 4 – 7.5

  4. Dem Adam says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs. Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) = 8 to 5
Wow, this Coldplay song is essentially 2 songs? The first one is much better than the 2nd. I had to knock off a point for that.

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs. Make It Better (The Knocks) = 7 to 6.5
These scores are very mood-based – at a different time of day it may go the other way. I do like that the Knocks song is is pretty openended, as opposed to being a verse-chorus-verse thing.

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs. Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) = 9 to 8
Dammit, this Solomon Burke tune is great.

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) vs. Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) = 6.5 to 9

  5. jameswheeler says:

9- Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs.
    6- Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay)
Hometown boys get a big bump for starting off the day with a bang. Coldplay sounded good but not as good as I remember from round 1.

8- Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs.
5- Make It Better (The Knocks)
I was listening to the playlist all the way through and Make it Better is the only one I had to go back and listen to again. Not because I loved it. Because I forgot what it sounded like.

10- When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs.
7- Cry To Me (Solomon Burke)
Every time I hear this Rakim track I fall in love with Rakim a little more. Solomon suffers from being up against a heavy hitta. Word to your mother.

6- All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) vs.
    9.5- Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash)
Deep Dark Woods seems like someone I would like but I haven’t really gotten into the song either time. It hangs around but never blows me away. As for Johnny only getting a 9. I felt giving two 10’s in one round would win me some sort of Round of 64 Award. So I broke my “no decimal” rule. Never say never.

  6. Daddy-O says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs. Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) 4.0 vs 6.0 Another bathroom tweet vs a very long song. I went with the snooze alarm.

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs. Make It Better (The Knocks) 6.5 vs 5.0

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs. Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) 3.0 vs 6.0

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) vs. Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) 6.75 vs 5.0 Just not worthy of the man in black.

  7. Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) 7
    Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) 6.2

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) 7.2
Make It Better (The Knocks) 5

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) 6.5
Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) 8

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) 7
    Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) 7

  8. Amanda says:

Sequestered in Memphis (The Hold Steady) – 7.5
Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) – 7.25

Pulling on a Line (Great Lake Swimmers) – 7
Make it Better (The Knocks) – 6

    When I B on Tha Mic (Rakim) – 4
Cry to Me (Solomon Burke) – 8

All the Money I Had is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) – 7
Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) – 8

  9. natalie says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) – 6.5

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) – 7.5
Make It Better (The Knocks) – 8

Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) – 6

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) – 8.5
Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) – 7

there’s a little part of me that’s taking pride in my recent bronze medal and wanting to vote for all the songs i expect to win, but i’m resisting.

  10. Sequestered in Memphis (The Hold Steady) – 6.5
Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay) – 5

Pulling on a Line (Great Lake Swimmers) – 5.5
Make it Better (The Knocks) – 7.5

  11. cjroomba says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs. Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay): 6.5//5.5

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs. Make It Better (The Knocks):6.5/7

  12. janos marton says:

    Weak sauce division…

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady) vs. Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay): 6.5 – 6

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers) vs. Make It Better (The Knocks): 5 : 5

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs. Cry To Me (Solomon Burke): 8.5 : 7.3
A shame these songs had to go head to head.

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods) vs. Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash): 5 : 7

  13. Greg says:

Sequestered In Memphis (The Hold Steady): 2.5
    Til Kingdom Come (Coldplay): 4.5

I hate saying it, but I tuned out through most of Til Kingdom Come. Listened to it again, tried to pay more attention and did it again. If it can’t hold my attention I guess it’s not that good, yet I’m still going to rate it higher than Sequestered in Memphis.

Pulling On A Line (Great Lake Swimmers): 6
Make It Better (The Knocks): 5.5

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim): 10
Cry To Me (Solomon Burke): 7

It’s a shame these two went head-to-head, I love Solomon Burke (just not more than the mighty Rakim).

All The Money I Had Is Gone (Deep Dark Woods): 7.5
    Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash): 5

Johnny didn’t do it for me this time.

  14. aiko says:

When I B On Tha Mic (Rakim) vs. Cry To Me (Solomon Burke) 4.5 / 10
    My only comment is:
