Covers Tournament: R128, Day 8 Results

This is me relaxing and not worrying about anyone taking my 1 seed. Don't even try, Days 9 through 16 winners.

We have a new contender smoking the competition, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the glory days of Somebody To Love. The highlight of the results here is Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World” pulling a blistering 8.068 average and dropping Billie Holiday’s “Blue Moon” 201.7-164.2. That’s good for first in the seeding by over half a point in average, with 32 songs left to post on the board. I created a page with seeds so far in case you are curious, by the way. When I was voting on these with a DC regular, she questioned whether Iz should even be allowed in the tourney since it’s a mash-up; when I think mash-up, I think Girl Talk, not a ukelele. I’m fine with it, but hopefully we won’t need an asterik going forward.

I have to admit, these guys look kinda cool.

In other scores, the people approved of the funky version of the Wilco song- “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” eliminates “September,” 153.3-134.45. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound is doing something right.

Eddie Vedder can’t keep up the momentum in the Round of 128, as “I’m Looking Through You” by The Wallflowers takes that match 157.7-147.

And last but not least, Regina Spektor claims the largest blow-out of the day as “Chelsea Hotel #2” puts “Iron Man” to bed, 173.9-132.5.

About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.
