Ladies and gentlemen, we have a contender. Scroll below the fold and you’ll see that “Home” put up monster numbers, the likes of which we’ve seen before in our leading contenders from the LTD Tournament.
#16 Classical Gas (Mason Williams) def. #1 Never Gonna Change (Drive-By Truckers), 227-203. Another instrumental scoring big. Though Guillermo noted two nights ago on the podcast that there’s no true upset in this tournament, watching another #1 bite the dust is jarring.
#8 I Put a Spell On You (Joe Cocker) put a spell on #9 Rock Like War (Rustic Overtones), 207-194 , as the Overtones saw their Day 1 lead crumble over a slew of bad Day 2 scores.
The high score of the round went to #13 Home (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros)(pictured above), who took out the Pearl Jam before they were Pearl Jam tune, #4 Hunger Strike (Temple of the Dog), 284-223. In doing so, “Home” made the Wall of 10s, thanks to Matt B., Meghan and Maureen, but equally importantly, picked up a ton of 8s and 9s, finishing with an average over 8. Home has the highest average and highest total score of this young tournament. Hunger Strike put up good numbers too, but was stuck in the wrong match-up.
Finally, #12 Tom’s Diner (Suzanne Vega) def. #5 Times Like These (Jack Johnson), 224-192 . I prefer “Times Like These” by the Foo Fighters myself.
Temple of the Dog, Jack Johnson, Rustic Overtones and the Drive-By Truckers are out of the tournament.
