Alright! More graphs and statistics! To kick us off, now that we only have eight songs, I thought it might be a little cleaner to redo the graph and show everyone what’s going on, do some trends, do some voter highlights, etc, etc, etc….basically things that are more fun to do on a waning Friday than teach myself how to use Adobe inDesign (ugh. what is this thing.)Alright, first thing first- let’s take a look at how our survivors look with the new scores and 8 less lines muddling the picture:
Hi, Bohemian Rhapsody- that’s a big jump for a 5 seed. Other things of note- Under Pressure, Baba O’Riley, and Stand By Me are the only three songs to drop in average between their division championship and their Sweet Sixteen win. Hmmm. But that’s only the story between two rounds- what I did next is draw trendlines for the whole tournament for all of the Elite Eight:
So layman’s explanation is that this is a linear representation in the form y=mx+b to best describe the scores of all of the songs across six rounds that have been completed, where every round is a single iteration for algebraic purposes. When you take the entire tournament into account, now it looks like overall only two songs have aged well- Bohemian and Baba. Which happen to be facing off starting tonight- oof.
But how do these numbers even get here? By our votes of course. But we are human, and sometimes we have good days, sometimes we have bad days, etc…How are we personally scoring these songs over time and who are the fans? This is a graph of some regular voters and how their averages for just the eight surviving songs have faired over time:
So what does this tell us?
-Everyone frantically started scoring harder in the third round
-Danno and Adrock are player haters (I’ve included a picture on the left of them standing on either side of Meghan’s Dad. If you’re a new voter and confused, explanation can be found here.)
-Danno’s averages look a lot like Thunder Road’s
-Catholic gives out a lot of 10s
-My averages Round 3 to 5 are eerily close to Grant’s
-Crazy Chester/Marconi is all over the place, which is appropriate
-Aiko and Astrid tend to lead average scoring across the eight songs…I’m going to call that the “Preacherman Effect”
OK, I’m beat. We’ll do some more awards later, including the prestigious “Who voted for the winning song the most times award,” if you consider that prestigious. Is Friday over yet? I want to go rock climbing.
