Music Tournament Round of 128: Division I Results

The uber-upset of the day goes to #11 Free Fallin’ (Tom Petty), which just thrashed #3 Layla (Derek and the Dominoes), 123.5-108.5. Perhaps Guillermo shouldn’t have gotten people fixated on that long piano finish.  It seems we have seen the last of the one-time guitar god, Eric Clapton, to say nothing of the Dominoes. (Artist #213)

Another routine win for #1 Tangled Up In Blue (Bob Dylan), which defeated #8 Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd), 114.5-105.  Earlier when I announced Pink Floyd’s demise Guillermo had to correct me, but now I can say with some assurance that they have been eliminated. (Artist #214)

#4 A Day in the Life (Beatles) def. #5 Thriller (Michael Jackson), 129-111.5.  A Day in the Life makes the Wall of 10s courtesy of Jacob and Mike, and takes the high score for the round.  Will face Tangled Up In Blue next.   Jackson seems to be sagging a little bit.  This result does not bode well for the upcoming Billie Jean.

#2 I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye) def. #10 Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen), 110.8-107.45.  Unimpressive win for Marvin. For Bruce, may have been good to cut this song loose and reduce Bruce fatigue for Born to Run and Thunder Road.

Oh come on- like it’s hard to miss the fact that Layla has 3 minutes of piano at the end. Clearly no one would have noticed that if I hadnt pointed it out.

Finch says, “Hello. Who is more foolish – the fool, or the fool that follows? And you can visit the Pyramids of Giza, but you can never experience the Pyramids of Giza.” I’m not sure what the second quote refers too.
