Last Band Standing: Staying Alive, Onto Game 6

Dickey Betts and the rest of the Allman Brothers Band roll to survival on “Jessica”

Both of our bands facing elimination fought back for wins to force Game 6! It’s an exciting time in tournament land. Thrilled=Coach Janos, who is surely pumped on the sidelines that whomever he might face is using up precious songs trying to join the Beach Boys in the three-way Royal Rumble.

On one side Coach Dan called for the kill with “Stuck In A Moment,” but couldn’t pull it off against the prolific “Jessica.” Allman Brothers with the win and the high score of the round, 78.6-69. On the other side, Coach Joe and “Have A Drink On Me” tough it out against Zeppelin’s “For Your Life,” 68.8-60.5.

Let’s get Game 6 started. Votes due by 5 PM on Friday, playlist is here. Coach Adrock and Coach Dan go different directions to try to put the finish to the series here, should be fun.

Touch Too Much (AC/DC) vs. Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin)

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2)

About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.

  1. Danno says:

    Touch Too Much (AC/DC) 4.5
Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) 8.5

    Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) 6
    Acrobat (U2) 2

  2. Adam S says:

Touch Too Much (AC/DC) vs. Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) 4 – 9.5 … seems like this is the end for AC DC

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2) 6 – 6

  3. Dan says:

    Touch Too Much (AC/DC): 6
Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin): 8

I must say I prefer this version of Over the hills

    Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) NA
    Acrobat (U2) NA

  4. Dem Adam says:

Touch Too Much (AC/DC) vs. Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) = 5 to 8

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2) = 4 to 4
Big Achtun Baby fan, but not into this song. Sounds way of ahead of its time, but in a bad way. A lot of crappy bands today do this sort of meandering thing where you can’t really put your finger on what they’re upset about, they’re just whiny downers in general.

I know I’ve hated on Radiohead in the past in these tourneys for similar reasons, however I saw them live for the first time this past spring and I take it back, they’re really good.

Better late than never! They are the primary band I am looking forward to at Bonnaroo in 3 weeks.

    7.5 : 9.2
Actually a pretty good AC/DC song, but it can’t touch Over the Hills.

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2)
    7: 6
One of the weaker songs on Achtung Baby- though it’s a testament to the album that one of it’s weaker songs still gets a 6.

  6. Touch Too Much (AC/DC) 7.5
Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) 9.2

I was just waiting for this giant killer to go out. I’m sure Adrock was hoping to have this one for the final battle, but going to a Game 7 is always dangerous. Good strategy. Similarly on Coach Joe’s side, when you’re nominating first and your back is against the wall it gets a little game theory-esque. Was sure we’d see “Shook Me All Night Long”- next time…

    Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) 7.8
    Acrobat (U2) 4

See the phrase following the comma in the second sentence upstairs.

  7. Eileen says:

Touch Too Much (AC/DC) vs. Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) 5.0 to 6.0

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2) 7.0 to 5.0

  8. The Progenitor says:

Touch Too Much (AC/DC) vs. Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin) 5.0 to 7.25

Southbound (Allman Brothers Band) vs. Acrobat (U2) 7.0 to 5.0

Just saw this article about Bono as a headliner on MSNBC.com. Thought it was interesting…

    Touch Too Much (AC/DC) xx
Over The Hills and Far Away (Led Zeppelin) xx

I admit I crapped the bed here with my choice, I should have known better. That said, Adrock pulled the throat on the neck move, and not much of what’s left from AC/DC could/ should/ would beat “Over the Hills” so nice play sir.

    Southbound (Allman Brother Band) 7
    Acrobat (U2) 6

Southbound is a great jam from a great album. It has a cool vibe, dueling guitars, and a decent piano solo. Acrobat is not the strongest song from Achtung Baby. I agree with Janos, it deserves a 6.

  11. Greg says:

    Touch Too Much (AC/DC): 7.5
Over The Hills And Far Away (Led Zeppelin): 9

Touch Too Much is a solid choice on most days, but I honestly think that there aren’t many AC/DC tracks that can compete with the upper echelon of Led Zeppelin songs. Led Zeppelin introduced me to how awesome rock could be. Before I listened to them you couldn’t get me within a hundred feet of anything outside hip-hop, they opened up new doors for me and made me realize there is other good music out in the world. Over the Hills and Far Away is a testament to how awesome LZ is. I don’t really think I need to say more. This was a great match-up of two of my favorite rock bands and a good hard fought battle on both contenders ends, e-high-fives to both you guys for keeping me entertained.

    Southbound (Allman Brothers Band): 8.5
    Acrobat (U2): 4

Funky Allman Brothers will always beat a less than stellar song off of Achtung Baby (the only U2 album I actually own and like). Acrobat isn’t exactly a terrible song, but compared to how good Southbound is it doesn’t hold a candle.
