Driving toward a sweep.
Two bands are against the wall, one band fought back for a win. Details below.
After falling two games down, George+Wife flex a classic and come out with the win. “Midnight Rider” defeats “Bullet the Blue Sky,” 67.9-50. Midnight Rider is definitely a hard train to stop- next round should be interesting as the series now stands 2-1, U2.
AC/DC has pummeled contenders to date, but now looks up against the ropes and facing elimination. “Battle of Evermore” defeats “Sin City,” 70.5-63.8. Coach Joe calls out a big dog, but we’ll wait to see if it’s enough.
Similarly, Coach Janos continues his reign of domination with the Beach Boys’ “Fun Fun Fun” destroying Atmosphere’s “The Number One” by over 20 points- 64.5-44 is the final here. I have no commentary on Coach Greg’s Game 4 nomination as I know nothing about Atmosphere, but I’m sure he’s reaching for an elimination staying win.
Game 4 votes are due Monday at 5 PM, to stymie all “I don’t sit around a computer on the weekends” considerations. Songs are here and AC/DC and Atmosphere face elimination. Good luck to all.
“I Can’t Quit You Babe” (Led Zeppelin) vs. “Highway To Hell” (AC/DC)
“Sunshine” (Atmosphere) vs. “In My Room” (Beach Boys)
“I Will Follow” (U2) vs. “Dreams” (Allman Brothers Band)
“I Can’t Quit You Babe” (Led Zeppelin) vs. “Highway To Hell” (AC/DC) 5.5 – 6.5
“Sunshine” (Atmosphere) vs. “In My Room” (Beach Boys) 6 – 3
“I Will Follow” (U2) vs. “Dreams” (Allman Brothers Band) 7 – 4.5
“I Can’t Quit You Babe” (Led Zeppelin) *
“Highway To Hell” (AC/DC) *
I want LZ to lose this – Highway was the first AC/DC song I ever heard, and I’ve loved them ever since, so it has an indelible stamp on my love of hard rock. Great elimination track Joe.
“Sunshine” (Atmosphere) 6
“In My Room” (Beach Boys) 9
I can’t explain it, but In My Room has always been amongst my favorite Beach Boys tracks – the harmony is just perfect. So simple, so good.
“I Will Follow” (U2) 8.5
“Dreams” (Allman Brothers Band) 5.5
This was a great set of tracks all around. I Will Follow is in my U2 top 5 (and frequently top 3). It’s also fantastic live, and the Under the Blood Red Sky version probably gets an extra .5 point maybe even a full point. But that doesn’t change the song’s awesomeness. Dreams was fun and cool, but not what i needed this morning. Still getting added to my Allman collection though.
I Can’t Quit You Baby (Led Zeppelin): 5
Highway To Hell (AC/DC): 9
I Can’t Quit You Baby is one of those tracks that made me fall in love with Led Zeppelin. I had no idea a rock band could drive a blues track so well. It hits all the right spots and Jimmy Page just makes the track come alive with his typical awesome playing. I’m a sucker for desperate/addicted to love blues tracks, but Joe with his back against the wall takes out one of his big guns with Highway to Hell. It’s classic AC/DC need I say more?
Sunshine (Atmosphere): X
In My Room (Beach Boys): X
This is easily one of, if not my favorite, Atmosphere tracks. I figured if I’m going down I should at least put it out there. Beautiful summer music as the title implies.
I Will Follow (U2): 8
Dreams (Allman Brothers Band): 6.5
I Will Follow is not your typical song from U2 or maybe I should say it’s not something I ever expected to hear from U2. I love that new wave sound, being off their first album I guess it’s not a surprise. It looks like I’m going to have to submit to U2 and check more out from Boy. I completely enjoy the tracks simplicity, why did they have to get pretentious and preachy with solid music like this in their catalog. I can’t hate on the Allman’s track here, Dreams is a really good song. I always love Duane’s solid guitar playing, but up against I Will Follow I just can’t swing their way.
“I Can’t Quit You Babe” (Led Zeppelin) vs. “Highway To Hell” (AC/DC) 5 – 7.5
The best of ACDC versus a perfectly competent, but pretty derivative and obvious blues track.
“Sunshine” (Atmosphere) vs. “In My Room” (Beach Boys) 2.5 – 8
Sorry, but even though Sunshine get better as the song goes on, listening to a guy describe his hangover for the first few bars just isn’t drawing me in. And, it gets better, but only by a bit as the subject matter turns sunnier. In My Room is pure, beautiful and straightforward in all the right ways.
“I Will Follow” (U2) vs. “Dreams” (Allman Brothers Band) 7-6
Both good, but the driving U2 sound just compliments my mood a bit better right now (could definitely see this decision going another way another day).

“I Can’t Quit You Babe” (Led Zeppelin) vs. “Highway To Hell” (AC/DC) 6.5 to 5.5 Again, the change of pace is what attracted me to this Zepp track.
“Sunshine” (Atmosphere) vs. “In My Room” (Beach Boys) 4.0 to 6.0 I have never been a BB fan but they sure beat the hell out of the dry heaves.
“I Will Follow” (U2) vs. “Dreams” (Allman Brothers Band) 5.0 to 5.0 Mediocrity would be an apt description here.

Oh I should have explained that. The beginning of the Beach Boys song sounds a lot like the theme from Twin Peaks to me.

I liked the beat and the lyrics in this Atmosphere song. As for In My Room, I just didn’t like this song.
I Will Follow (U2) 8
Dreams (The Allman Brothers) 6
Great U2 song, which doesn’t compare to this Allman’s song.
