About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.

  1. janos marton says:

    Is the sadness of some of these facts mitigated by the growth of the music market? The Beatles reign on the charts will never be rivaled- consider this:
    They once had all 5 spots on the singles charts;
    They had the top album on the charts for a third of all the months from 1964-1970.

    Some of the facts are still awful (Streisand, Katy Perry), but others are a little like saying CJ Wilson makes more money than Sandy Koufax- times change.

  2. The growth and the ever-changing character of the music market definitely play a role here. Yet regardless of the context, people will always have different tastes and I dare say the masses hardly ever appreciate exquisite tunes or ambitious literature. Is it disappointing? I don’t know. I think this disappointment part is a curiosity. I do tend to be disappointed whenever someone makes faces at my Johnny Cash or my Dylan. Then again, I have no idea who Katy Perry is, but somehow I don’t think anyone will think it disappointing…. If anything, ignorant. 🙂
