Round of 256: Division N, Right Side Results

A cowboy, a gangster, and Maurice walk into a diner...

Whoa. The results of the right side of Division N looked pretty set, and then with the fury of the January chill across Lake Michigan, Chicago roommates Maureen, Chris, and Caroline laid down the law, turning things topsy-turvier than the Topsy Turvy song in Disney’s “Hunchback of Notre Dame” (why would I reference that. Why would I want anyone to know I know that.) Let’s review-

To start, the easiest win still goes to Steve Miller Band, who joked their way past Hall & Oates to a solid win and the top average of the division. “The Joker” advances, 192.95-169.10.

While the 3 seed escapes here, the 2 seed wasn’t so lucky. The People bought into this tale by Dexter Holland of the fragile lives and crushed dreams of his childhood street. “The Kids Aren’t Alright” advances over “The Pretender,” 149.25-141.30.

Don't pretend you didn't doubt us, People.

OK, here come the crazy parts. First off, Cher looked like she was going to coast into a win and the Round of 128, but the late votes did her in in a really big way. Admittedly, it seemed that a number of voters 100% couldn’t deal with the Goddess of Pop… there were enough 3 and below Cher scores to fill a dinner table at the Player Hater’s Ball. After seeming on the verge of elimination, Led Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” bounces back and eliminates “If I Could Turn Back Time,” 164.45-153.80.

Last but not least, the Kittens Ablaze-Prince battle broke the record for closest win, which was previously by 0.6 points. Timmy, Grant, and the rest of the band withstand a terrible onslaught from the last trio of voters and with the barest of margins survive their scores. “Doom Gloom Buttercups” defeats “Purple Rain,” 144.75-144.30.

Out of the tournament: Foo Fighters, Hall & Oates, Cher (0-2), and Prince. What a round!

About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.

I referenced The Emperor’s New Groove in our interview with Todd, so don’t worry about it too much.
