Day 1 Play-In Results

And the results are in! Day 1 has finished up with a total of 35 voters, which blows away any of our LTDMT records for participation. And as I’ve always said, the more people that vote, the more legitimate the results.

Point leader for the day was Semisonic’s “Closing Time,” which put quick work to

Mike Doughty’s “I Hear The Bells,” 217.9-155.8. Apparently Wal-Mart decided that Semisonic deserved a spot in their coveted Millenium Collection, as seen above. Great.

The other large margin victory goes to Death Cab For Cutie; “Title and Registration” eliminates “Lua” by Bright Eyes, 190.9-133.5.

The closest match of this group was the UGK-Sarah Maclachlan battle, it was sort of like watching two turtles race in the rain. The songstress ends up taking this one, 134.7-120 with an earth shattering average score of 4.21.

In the final match, we had a pair of montage ready tunes. The one not also a television show goes on (love that sax!) “Careless Whisper” defeats “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” 149.5-131.8.

The following artists have been eliminated from the tournament: UGK, Mike Doughty, Bright Eyes, and Will Smith.

About g-mo

The day I was born, Michael Jackson's Thriller album was at the top of the Billboard 200. I've been trying my best to live up to that expectation ever since.

  1. I don’t know whether that guy on the left looks like a poor man’s James Van Der Beek or if James Van Der Beek looks like a poor man’s “lead singer of Semisonic.”
