This whole thing is really a forced experiment in how quickly Nos and I learn how to use technology (for example, we only figured out how to make blogs have a “continue reading” link about 3 weeks ago.) But exciting news- the first ever Living The Dream Music Tournament Podcast is now available! Listen as we discuss the surprising results from the Elite Eight and look forward to our predictions on the Final Four!
Living The Dream Podcast 4/25/11
PS- I forgot I mentioned in the podcast I’d tell my Dusty Springfield story. So I was with another voter listening to the Elite Eight at a bar called Solly’s on U Street on Saturday night- there was an Internet jukebox and so we just loaded up the songs and let them play through. When Son of a Preacherman came on, this older guy with tussled hair and a nondescript brown jacket drinking by himself three stools down turned to this girl that was clearly with a more youthful and party-heavy group and goes:
“Have you ever been to Memphis?”
This question piqued my interest, so I listened as the girl went, “um, no.” The guy nodded and continued.
“Well, I just ask, because you know, Dusty Springfield recorded this song in Memphis.”
She nodded and sorta turned away quickly and the guy let out a little sigh and returned to his whiskey cocktail and looked sad. I dunno, I had this sorta awesome silent moment of “Huh. I know that she did too because of this music tournament. Everyone knows a little bit about music, wherever you go. That’s such a good thing.”
Retrospectively I wish I’d told him about the music tournament, but I had to concentrate on the song, and then by the time the match-ups were over I forgot about it. Oh, don’t go to the Jumbo Slice pizza place near 11th and U, the slices taste like they were marinated in a baby pool.
I only listened to about half of this on my lunch break, but from your description I anticipated more grunting and banging on things. Pretty interesting, though.
Also my name is pronounced with a long I. Or eye. The a is misleading.
loved this!
Yeah, sorry about the mispronunciation- was definitely a first try, “we think this will work but aren’t sure so we’ll just give it a shot.”
Also, I really want to get a 50s style sound effects board in play on these soon enough.
G-mo. You guys crack me up, and it made me miss you. You really should come to Africa and the ToTo song definitely needs to go into the fan favorite tournament.
Anyway an FYI for Janos. My last name is pronounced “MAY grow” like she may grow she may not, but she did and is 5′ 8″ 3/4 in tall.
Ok, love from here!
Notes for future:
AI-ko that rhymes with Tyco
MA-gro that rhymes with Day-Glo
Got it. Also with regard to the Queen songs discussion Nos and I had, I’ve been thinking about that the last couple days- we should have mentioned “We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
