Thank you all for what has been an epic whirlwind through six decades of incredible music. With the Round of 256 coming to a close, we are 75% of the way through the Music Tournament- more if you count the play-in rounds.
In the next two days, Guillermo and I will post some fun facts about the tournament so far, and give people to time to recharge. From here on in, the rounds will fly by faster. While the Round of 512 took almost two months, the Round of 128 will last only 16 days. The possibility of artists, even individual songs, starting to wear thin is going to become a reality.
That’s all in the future, however. For now, savor the last matchups of this round. As always, listen at Grooveshark and vote by commenting below or emailing LTDdotorg@gmail.com before 8pm Monday.
#2 Wavin’ Flag (K’Naan) vs. #15 Love Shack (B-52s). K’Naan was all the rage in his first two rounds of the tournament. Doesn’t look like a serious test here.
#7 Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits) vs. #10 Where It’s At (Beck). What a classic. These songs represent completely different eras and vibes, even though they are only about 10 years apart.
#3 I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor) vs. #14 And She Was (Talking Heads). I’m scratching my head at Gaynor’s #3 seeding, but unless today’s voter base is into fun acid stories, this may be the only true disco song to advance to the Round of 128.
#6 No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley) vs. #11 Karma Police (Radiohead). Two artists that have mixed levels of success this tournament go head to head to close out the round.
Bonus track: Wavin’ Flag Spanish Remix, presumably to compete in the shadow Spanish remix draw of the tournament.
Wavin’ Flag (K’Naan) ~ 10
Love Shack (B-52s) ~ 5
Waving flag had the whole room throwing their arms in the air and waving them like they just don’t care. Love Shack cleared the room.
Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits) ~ 7
Where It’s At (Beck) ~ 9.7
Sultans of Swing sounded very Bob Dylany, and not in a good way. Where It’s At is the best song off of one of my favorite albums, Beck’s tour de force Odelay that explores every genre he could come up with during recording. No contest.
I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor) ~ 9.2
And She Was (Talking Heads) ~ 3
I Will Survive has got to be my favorite Disco song. So passionate. Gloria rocks. And She Was bored and annoyed me.
No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley) ~ 9.6
Karma Police (Radiohead) ~ 7
Bob Marley closes out strong. Not sure why I feel so nostalgic for Kingston town, guess its just a testament to Bob’s talent. Karma Police is kind of a downer. Its a good song, just not THAT good…

No piano man-esque malaise here. Waving Flag going strong, no sign yet of it grating or wearing thin.
#7 Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits) 4.5
#10 Where It’s At (Beck) 7.5
Now, i really like Dire Straits, and this song, but this one wore waaaay to thin. Can’t say as I love Beck, and K’naan is gonna beat him like a rented mule, but for a round, I think he’ll be good.
