Closing out O with some wild and fun songs. In prepping Grooveshark tonight I thought this might be one of the strongest brackets of the entire round- a riff-raff free zone.
Sabotage is definitely up there in the Awesome Music Video category, Magic Carpet Ride was the backdrop of the epic chase scene in Go! and Werewolves of London…don’t get me started. “I saw I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand. Walkin’ through the streets of Soho in the rain.” Best opening line of all time? Time to head over to Grooveshark (except Wish You Were Here). Vote by commenting below or emailing LTDdotorg@gmail.com by 9pm on Saturday.
Pink Floyd (surprisingly), Beastie Boys, Steppenwolf, Louis Armstrong and Warren Zevon all face elimination tonight. There will be blood in at least two of the match-ups.

Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) 8.5 [this is a really complex chord progression (lots of weird 9ths) which sounds incredibly simple. Really good musicianship.]
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon) 4 [ ok. Is this like the Rick Roll of the tournament? Is there any talent in here anywhere or is this like an internet meme I missed? I honestly don’t get this. Inside joke? I’m literally a bit baffled.]
Fortunate Son (CCR) 6
Mysterious Ways (U2) 4
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd) ~9
Sabotage (Beastie Boys) ~ 7.5
Love the Boys, not my favorite song of theres. That would be Egg Man. Wish You Were Here is probably my favorite song in the ‘haunting’ genre…
Magic Carpet Ride (Steppenwolf) ~ 9
Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder) ~ 9.1
Both phenomenal songs in their own right.
Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) ~ 9.2
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon) ~ 7
Louis really blows me away with how good this song is. I tapped my toes to Zevon, but not at the same level as ol’ Lou.
Fortunate Son (CCR) ~ 10
Mysterious Ways (U2) ~ 7.4
Fortunate Son is too damned good of a song on every level that a song can be good at. I used to really like Mysterious Ways, but its just hollow in comparison to how rockin’ CCR is …
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd) 9.3
Sabotage (Beastie Boys) 9.1
I’ve always loved Wish You Were Here. Sabotage is helping me power through Friday afternoon.
Magic Carpet Ride (Steppenwolf) 8.7
Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder) 7
Re: Aiko and Sweetems
Werewolves of London has some of the most awesome lyrics ever, along with an infectious hook. Though Zevon’s son said the song was “fueled by enormous quantities of vodka”, the song is reputedly about the young British punk movement in the late 1970s, who Zevon had great respect for. They were cast as scary rebels, but they also paid great attention to their appearance (“his hair was perfect”).
Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) 7.8
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon) 10
Fortunate Son (CCR) 7.4
Mysterious Ways (U2) 6.9
Not going to lie – this is probably my favorite section of the draw. As such, my scores are tightly knit, and will have minimal impact, but I’m proud to give them out anyway.
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd) 6
Sabotage (Beastie Boys) 9
Literally the only song I wasn’t dying for, which is sad since I love PF and they’ve suffered in this tourney.
Magic Carpet Ride (Steppenwolf) 7.8
Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder) 9.8
Stevie needs some love from y’all.
Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) 9.3
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon) 10
Completely agree with Janos, and when you’re in a drinking mood, few songs I know are as great for pump ups early in the night. Sad to not give a 10 to Louis as well… just not quite there.
