Welcome home, Melo!

After an agonizing several months, Carmelo Anthony is finally a New York Knick.  The blockbuster trade announced earlier tonight sends away four core Knicks- Ray Felton, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov.  Chandler and Gallinari, who had great moments growing up in the Knicks system, will be especially missed, but at least Chandler was likely to leave after this season anyway.

In return, the Knicks acquired Melo, the man apparently still called “Mr. Big Shot”, Chauncey Billups, and an assortment of scrubs.  But no matter.  Amare Stoudamire is a superstar, and his arrival has electrified the Garden this year.  Melo is a superstar on that level, and having them both on the floor at the same time  will lead to match-up nightmares for their opponents.

Carmelo Anthony was born in Brooklyn and raised in Baltimore.  Many New Yorkers were rooting for him in 2003, when he lead Syracuse to the national championship as a freshman.

That year I proposed that the international community name Anthony to head the nation of Belarus’s interim government after we removed corrupt Dictator/President Lukashenka from power.

Here’s to many good days ahead draining shots and firing up the crowd at the World’s Most Famous Arena.
