Living the Dream Music Tournament: Day 42

Some classics are up tonight. Listen on Grooveshark, except to Moondance and Another Brick in the Wall. And Yesterday.  Weird. Those are like the three artists not on Grooveshark.

**Also, there are two versions of Walls. Use the one from “Greatest Hits”.  There are two versions of Dylan. Use “Essential Bob Dylan”.  Grooveshark has been a nightmare the last 24 hours.

Crimson and Clover (Tommy James) vs. With a Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker)

Fight Test (Flaming Lips) vs. Walls (Tom Petty)

Miss You (Rolling Stones) vs. Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen)

Pressure Drop (Toots and the Maytals) vs. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder)

Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd) vs. Moondance (Van Morrison)

Yesterday (Beatles) vs. Times They Are A Changin’ (Bob Dylan)

  1. Where's the Pharcyde? says:

Crimson and Clover (Tommy James) 7 vs. With a Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker) 6- Wonder Years or not, this is the wrong version of this song to put in the tournament

Fight Test (Flaming Lips) 7 vs. Walls (Tom Petty) 6

Miss You (Rolling Stones) 7 vs. Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen) 8

Pressure Drop (Toots and the Maytals) 7 vs. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder) 7

Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd) 7 vs. Moondance (Van Morrison) 6

Yesterday (Beatles) 7 vs. Times They Are A Changin’ (Bob Dylan) 8

Is this really still the first round? Most of these songs are pretty strong.

    • janos marton says:

Twas’ a strong set of songs. There are a couple of impressive play-ins among this group.
Isn’t this the quintessential “Help from my friends” version?

  2. adam says:

Sorry to miss some rounds – no computer for a few days.

Crimson and Clover (Tommy James) vs. With a Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker) = 5 to 7

Fight Test (Flaming Lips) vs. Walls (Tom Petty) = 6.5 to 6
The verses are better than the chorus in ‘Walls’

Miss You (Rolling Stones) vs. Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen) = 6.5 to 7.5

Pressure Drop (Toots and the Maytals) vs. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder) = 7 to 8
my mom ran across steveie wonder in Lansing one day at the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing – and she remembers thinking ‘oh hey, there’s that stevie wonder kid that has that song ‘fingertips’ out right now.’ how cool is that?

Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd) vs. Moondance (Van Morrison) = 5 to 5.5

Pressure Drop (Toots and the Maytals) 3 vs. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder) 6

Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd) 10 vs. Moondance (Van Morrison) 9 So sad that this was a 1st round matchup… both songs can go deep.

Yesterday (Beatles) 8.5 vs. Times They Are A Changin’ (Bob Dylan) 4 Definitely not a good version of Times they are a changin…

    • janos marton says:

It was the wrong version of “Times”, thanks for pointing that out. Grooveshark won’t let me delete individual songs from playlists today for some reason, so there are now two. The one on “Essential Bob Dylan” is the correct version.

  8. Mark B says:

Crimson and Clover (Tommy James) 5 vs. With a Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker) 5
The Beatles version of any song the Beatles have ever done will always be better than anyone else’s attempt.

Fight Test (Flaming Lips) 8 vs. Walls (Tom Petty) 5
I love the Flaming Lips and this is one of their best. The Yoshimi… album is pretty dear to my little heart.

Miss You (Rolling Stones) 5 vs. Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen) 5.5
Perhaps I haven’t been in America long enough to get fully on board with this Brucie song…don’t love it. Iconic status probably gives it the edge over Miss You though…
