Shout (Otis Redding) vs. Let’s Spend the Night Together (Rolling Stones). I’m pretty sure this isn’t Otis Redding. I’m not sure if he even did this song. Nonetheless, it is a great song. 7/8.5

Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen) vs. Take It Easy (Eagles) 8.5/8

Fool in the Rain (Led Zeppelin) vs. Gin and Juice (Snoop Dogg) 9/6.5

The Only Living Boy in New York (Simon and Garfunkel) vs. Beyond the Sea (Bobby Darin) 8/7

Natural Mystic (Bob Marley) vs. Don’t Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) 2/5

Funny story, Lindsey. Turns out it is Otis Day and the Knights, the fictional band from Animal House. I always assumed Otis Day was just a fictional version of Otis Redding. Turns out the song is an Isley Brothers cover- check out this bad-ass version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL9xOLpwI0I
Meanwhile, Otis Day and the Knights were such a big hit that they became a real band, and perform “Shout” to this day.

You want a teaser. Otis Day credits JOHN BELUSHI for teaching him about self-control.

    • lindsay says:

That is funny. 🙂 And thanks for clearing that up — I was listening and thinking “This isn’t my Otis!” and had to pause in the middle and listen to “These Arms of Mine” for a voice confirmation. haha

  5. Adam says:

Shout (Otis day and the Knights) vs. Let’s Spend the Night Together (Rolling Stones). = 6 to 8
When I had hair, I used to dance around like I assumed Mic Jagger danced to this song.

Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen) vs. Take It Easy (Eagles) 10 to 8.5
I am comfortable with this score. I just think of Bruce making the band record take after take, completely lost in his madness.
This is all very sad, because this is my favorite Eagles song, and sometimes makes me wish I could’ve been Glen Frey in the 70s. We can all assume that was a lot of fun.

Fool in the Rain (Led Zeppelin) vs. Gin and Juice (Snoop Dogg) = 8.5 to 6
Who but Led Zepplin could’ve written a weird ass song like this? The Snoop Dogg tune is great but ‘Nothin’ but A G Thang’ deserves to go to the finals…this isn’t on that level.

The Only Living Boy in New York (Simon and Garfunkel) vs. Beyond the Sea (Bobby Darin) 8 to 9.5
The first time I heard the Simon and Garfunkel song, I thought it was ‘new’, until someone told me who it was. I couldn’t believe it.
Beyond the Sea, and Bobby Darin’s version of it is the jam. Just a wonderful song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksiFrib7vh0&feature=related (please ignore the stupid video)

Natural Mystic (Bob Marley) vs. Don’t Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) = 3 to 6.5

Natural Mystic (Bob Marley) vs. Don’t Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) 7:7

We have me, Cristina and the Lardo Sisters over here. We rotated scoring, so you can’t really tell who voted what, but the debates were lively. Look below, it’s like a 5-setter at Wimbledon.

On New Year’s Eve, Guillermo and I will be hosting a similar live scoring event at 5pm on East 14th Street.

Shout (Otis day and the Knights) 8.5 vs. Let’s Spend the Night Together (Rolling Stones). 7
Such a great song by Otis Day and the Knights, thanks for the back story Janos. Not feeling LStNT… many better songs by the Stones that don’t feel so dated.

Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen) 6 vs. Take It Easy (Eagles) 7
I thought I liked Bruce. Guess I don’t. Also, the Eagles didn’t wow me with this one.

Fool in the Rain (Led Zeppelin) 8 vs. Gin and Juice (Snoop Dogg) 5
Solid Zeppelin song, nice and weird. Nostalgia can’t save Gin and Juice, I think Underground Hip Hop has ruined me on gangsta rap.

The Only Living Boy in New York (Simon and Garfunkel) 5 vs. Beyond the Sea (Bobby Darin) 8.5
    Love Bobby Darin.
Natural Mystic (Bob Marley) 8.5 vs. Don’t Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) 6
    Bob takes this.
