Helpless Helpless [7.5] – Live from an epic concert, great song.
Wind Cries Mary [8.5] – Jimi brings it. If you like guitars and poetry, you have to like this song.
Fire and Rain [8.5] – Never knew the name of this song, probably my favorite of James. Hits those melancholy yet so sweet notes so nicely.
Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again [7.5] – Sorry Bob, you’re a great poet, but you can’t sing for shit, especially not compared to James Taylor’s best song.
Adam’s Song [3] – Awesome power chords, horrible whiny vocals. There are better Blink songs, but do any of them deserve to be in this contest?
Friday I’m in Love [6] – Unlike the rest of The Cure’s songs, doesn’t make me want to slit my wrists… catchy tune, but dated instrumentals.
I’m sad I’ve been so swamped to vote the last few days, but in my defense I’ve been doing a lot of voting with my feet for Antibalas, Soulive, Trombone Shorty and George Porter, if you know what I mean.
Two Princes-3 vs By The Way-2. (both these songs annoy me. but my sick wife perked up when she heard two princes playing, and she’s cute, so they get the edge. By the Way isn’t good enough to be on the third album of blood sugar sex magik alternate takes)
Walk This Way-9 vs. Sex Machine-9. (I HATE THIS MATCHUP. In the same way that the NFC west shouldn’t get a birth in the playoffs, it’s pretty clear to me that neither two princes nor by the way should advance and both of these songs should. The song that paved the way for hip hop making the mainstream AND Aerosmith’s comeback AND making the rise of bands like the Chili Peppers and Rage possible… vs James Brown?! Cruel punishment for both).
