Living the Dream Music Tournament: Day 17 Results

Day 17 featured the greatest voter participation since the Tournament began, so thank you to all who voted.  There were some real battles out there, and I’ll personally lose some sleep wondering who things would have gone differently if I’d nominated William Shatner’s version of Common People instead of Pulp’s.

One (U2) def. Common People (Pulp), 121-117.  A truly hard-fought battle.  Even though I was rooting for Common People, One won multiple music tournaments back in the 90s, so I’m not all that surprised.

I’m So Tired of Being Alone (Al Green) def. Love Train (O Jays), 111-91. For those who have never seen Al in concert, he’s still got it.

Sounds of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel) def. The River (Bruce Springsteen), 112-108. You’ll be seeing a lot of Paul Simon and the Boss this tournament, but Simon wins this time around.

Call Me (Blondie) def. 99 Red Balloons (Nena), 108-104.  Two weeks after knocking off Man in the Mirror, Blondie’s Cindarella story continues.

Paranoid (Black Sabboth) def. Gouge Away (Pixies), 99-98.  Guillermo pointed out my inaccurate spelling of the holy day.  Since competitors know better than to change quirks in the middle of winning streaks, I’m keeping this spelling until Paranoid goes down.  The seminal album, Doolittle, drops to 0-2 for the tournament.
