Living the Dream Music Tournament: Day 12 Results

Did Jacob’s drunken string of 10-0 shut-outs (amended to 10-1) tip the scales?  Not really, it turns out.

Country Roads (John Denver) def. Paradise (John Prine), 100-75.  Peeps, I just don’t think Angel of Montgomery is a great song.  It’s moot, because people were really digging Country Roads.

Friend of the Devil (Grateful Dead) def. Second Hands News (Fleetwood Mac), 71-66. It’s tough not to like Friend of the Devil, though it remains to be seen if people love it enough to push it much further.

It’s the Same Old Song (Four Topps) def. Sweet Emotions (Aerosmith), 93-88.

Peaches (Presidents of the USA) is a lot weaker than I remember it (this too was a recommendation), but it still had enough going on to topple Sample in a Jar, one of Phish’s most accessible songs, 72-59.

Shoop (Salt N Pepa) def. Drunk Girls (LCD Soundsystem), called early. Wow, other songs that have gotten low scores, I can understand, but wtf?  Drunk Girls is energetic, fun, gets you running like mad on a treadmill, has some witty lyrics, and has all kind of things going on musically.  For all the people that gave it a “1”, go running with this in your Ipod and then get back to me.  I like Shoop just fine, so nothing personal, but damn…
